Abundance EcoVillage Pricing

Here is a breakdown of what it costs to get ready to build in Abundance Ecovillage. Notice that we have broken down the costs into several elements--land (this includes some common structures like the community building, greenhouse, and hostel), water, energy (electricity and solar hot water), and sewage recycling.

The ecovillage is organized into neighborhoods of 9-12 lots each. There are 4 neighborhoods. Paying the land fee allows you to reserve a spot in a neighborhood the ecovillage. The rest of the fees are due before building. Each lot will be a vastu, each neighborhood will be a vastu, and the whole village will be a vastu, each designed according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.

Land:
The land fee covers the costs of purchasing your house lot, earthworks (including roads, ponds, walking paths, and parking areas), common building, greenhouse, guest/hostel/intern housing, an allotment in the market garden area, an allotment in the orchard area, windbreaks and shelter belts, wetland areas, permaculture design fees, Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design fees for the layout of the village and neighborhoods, and miscellaneous fees for the establishment of the village.

Energy:
The energy fee covers the cost of electricity and solar hot water. An electrical energy system will built for each cluster and will consist of photovoltaic panels, a wind generator, a back up generator powered by soy diesel, and associated monitoring and control equipment. The energy system will provide 150 to 200 kilowatt-hours per home per month. The solar hot water systems will be built for each house.

Sewage and wastewater recycling:
The waste recycling fee covers what would normally be called sewage disposal in most developments. In abundance ecovillage the waste streams generated from the households are considered as sources of nutrients and water to be utilized, rather than wastes. The sewage recycling fee covers the cost of handling black water (containing feces and urine) and grey water (containing water from showers and sinks). The solid wastes will be automatically separated from liquid wastes, vermicomposted for several years in a closed environment, then buried in a forested area built especially for this purpose. The trees will be varieties like poplar and locust, which tolerate coppicing, allowing continuous harvest of firewood and poles, thus turning what is often considered a waste product into a resource. Liquid wastes will be treated in a constructed wetlands system.

Water:
There will be three qualities of water available in abundance ecovillage. One will be for agricultural use and will come from ponds. Water for household use (dishwashing, showering) will come from rainwater catchment, and water for drinking will come from further processing of the rain catchment water or be brought from town. The water fee covers the cost of collecting rainwater from rooftops, storing it, and delivering pressurized water to each lot.

Total ready to build fees: $35000
