The work is to be built largely, although not necessarily exclusively, of natural materials from Iowa such as stone, wood, metal, earth, straw, etc. Possibilities include elements along the entry lane, a structure over the entry lane, a structure that moves, a construction which one can enter, a piece in the courtyard of the common building, or a fountain.

The sculpture will serve as an icon for the village. It’s image may be used in a logo, website and other publicity. Entrants note that in the first few months of construction, Abundance EcoVillage was referenced in 12 local, regional and national programs and articles so your work will reach a large number of people. The budget for the installed work is $7,855.

The Proposal

Please submit in writing, audio, video or other media your thinking/feeling on the significance of Abundance EcoVillage.

Submit your proposal for a sculpture which embodies the theme of unifying Diversity. A model of your concept is required. The proposal may be supported by writing, video, audio or any combination which best conveys your idea/ideas. Also show how your sculpture would be rendered graphically for use in a logo.

You are invited to support your proposal by photos or descriptions of previous work. These will be returned to you. We reserve the right to use your proposal in a public display of proposals.

Selection date: April 13, 2002
Completion and installation: September 14, 2002
