The Nearings began to craft a simple, satisfying life for themselves in the woods of Vermont in the 1930's.   They combined vegetarianism, spirituality, intellectual and professional pursuits, and simple, self-sufficient living into their version of the good life.  They spent the next 60 years refining and living this life, which was detailed in their books including the classics  "Living the Good Life" and "Continuing the Good Life ".    You are invited to see a documentary film on their lives, followed by a discussion on living the good life in Iowa in the 1990's.  Special guest is Jelalluddine,  who lived on a small farm on the coast of Maine for 15 years and visited the Nearings many times.  He will speak about his experience knowing the Nearings.  Lonnie Gamble visited the Nearing farm this summer and will show video of what the farm looks like today.
