Salerno Home

John and Judy Salerno's comfortable 1350 sq ft two bedroom, two bathroom home features timber frame construction and bamboo floors. The house is inexpensive to heat with R38 walls and R60 ceiling (thick walls and cellulose insulation). A small wood stove provides radiant heat with conventional 'forced-air' propane heat supplying the remainder. Earth tubes keep the house cool in the summer and also temper the air in the winter to save propane heating costs. Hot water for home use is heated with evacuated solar collector tubes, which are more effective than flat plates at collecting energy at dusk, dawn, and on cloudy days. A conventional propane water heater provides backup. John has written an article about his house Attach:SalernoMSVHome.doc
