Events At Abundance EcovillageConcerts and Cultural EventsWe occasionally host conferences, workshops, and community events. Once or twice a year we host a concert at the outdoor stone stage near the pond. These are magical events on a summer night, with the soft whisper of the wind generator and the sounds of summer night as a backdrop. Nationally known artists who have graced our stage include Prairie Home Companion regular Dave Moore, Ann Arbor based Ani Gallup, Rhode Island singer/songwriter diva Kristi Martel, and the wildly popular Rachel Reis, from Chicago. In the summer of 2006 we were fortunate to host Ember Swift, Canadian activist and performer on a round the world tour. Thanks performers. we love you all! Click on "Past Events" for samples of these memorable evenings. We've also hosted bonfire/drum circles in conjunction with the annual Ecofair hosted by the local university (Several of our residents work at the university). Drum circles have brought in as many as 300 people. Slow Food- Savoring the Abundance Harvest![]() Ecovillage founder Lonnie Gamble also founded the Fairfield Slow Food International chapter. Slow Food is a subversive cultural and social change organization that works from the angle of the pleasure and sensuality of life (I bet you thought that slow food was just about eating!) Every year we also host one or two slow food events. Pizza fresh from the gardens and our cob (clay) oven are very popular. ToursAround 1000 people tour Abundance Ecovillage every year. In 2006, we hosted Iowa Governor Terry Vilsack and his family. He commented that he felt that it was "important" that he had seen the Abundance Ecovillage, and he has talked about the ecovillage at appearances across the country. Thanks Governor Vilasack!
